Local Rules and Terms of the Competition

The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association and the R & A Rules Limited govern play. These Local Rules and Terms of the Competition are in effect at all Saguaro Golf Club events. See the Tournament Director for the event for modification or additions to these Local Rules and Terms of the Competition. Complete text of the Rules and Local Rules may be found in the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf or the USGS Golf App., effective January 2023.

Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a Local Rule is the general penalty, 2 strokes in stroke play and loss of hole in match play.

Ground Under Repair – Defined by white lines. French drains are ground under repair. Ground under repair may include areas of unusual damage, including areas where other traffic has combined with wet conditions to affect materially the ground surface, but only when so declared by an authorized member of the Committee. Play 2 balls if no authorized member of the Committee is available and inform Committee when returning scorecard so ruling can be made (take a photo to show Committee if possible). When immediately adjacent to an immovable obstruction, such an area is part of the obstruction.

Relief from Seams of Cut Turf – Model Local Rule F-7 as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect. No relief if seam only interferes with the player’s stance.

Pace of Play – Unless otherwise noted, see Saguaro Golf Club Policies and Procedures.

Double Greens – Model Local Rule D-6 is in effect for all double greens and relief must be taken under Rule 13.1f. Consult your playing partners if there is a question about your ball being on the wrong green.

Prepared Rock – An area of rock closely arranged for functional purpose (for example, drainage or erosions control) is an obstruction.

Alternate to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds - Model Local Rule E-5 as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.

Turf Aeration Holes – Model Local Rule E-4 as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect. In general area, drop within 1 club length no nearer the hole, on green, place ball nearest point of complete relief no nearer the hole.

Desert Rules – Play hole like the desert is a red penalty area. Provisional ball is NOT allowed. Unplayable ball relief is NOT allowed. Play ball as it lies no penalty or drop ball within 2 club-lengths of where ball entered the desert, take back on the line relief (if available), or take stroke and distance relief (this is not a provisional ball) all for 1 penalty stroke.

Dropping Zones – Model Local Rule E-1.1 as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect for the holes where drop zones are normally marked for example #9 at Silverbell and #17 at Dell Urich. If drop zone is not marked, consult playing partners to determine drop zone.

Scorecard Returned – A scorecard is final after turning in the scorecard to the Committee Member doing the computer scoring.

Close of Competition – The Competition is closed when all scores have been checked and posted in Golf Genius.
